Strategy Progressing

Since the adoption of the Wellington Regional Strategy in May 2007 a range of activities and projects have been getting underway. See the orange  Latest News box on the left for more details.

A Regional Broadband Plan to establish a fibre broadband network for the region has been developed. It is dependant on Government funding and this is being awaited with anticipation.

A regional Genuine Progress Index is underway to not only measure the success of the strategy but also the well-being of the region. This is a new way of measuring progress and well-being and takes a broader look at the factors that contribute to our well-being as a region.

Grow Wellington, the regional economic development agency formed as part of the Strategy, has been established and is driving an enormous range of projects. Their aim is to drive growth in exports and to help create a strong and vibrant Wellington regional economy to be enjoyed by all. They work with individual businesses, and develop centres of excellence and other larger projects involving industry groups and sectors.

The Wellington Region Labour Market Strategy, which has key links to the WRS, is progressing with strategy workstreams underway and key projects being developed.

For more information on other projects see the orange Latest News box on the left.
