We received 440 submissions on the WRS and it was obvious a number of these were the result of detailed work on the part of the submitters, so we want to say thanks. We will have a better strategy as a result.
The hearings committee is considering the submissions, including how they can be incorporated into the document. The hearings committee will also take account of the survey of 1200 residents and 300 businesses in the region. Following this is a two staged process:
January 30, 2007
The hearings committee makes its recommendation to the interim WRS committee
February 22, 2007
The interim WRS committee makes its recommendation to the Greater Wellington Regional Council
So from the end of February the region will have a clear direction for its growth strategy. If the WRS gets the green light, then we remain on track for a 1 July 2007 kick off date for funding and the new institutional arrangements.
